Preparation for Worship
Made, and bought by Love divine, Thine I am, and doubly Thine:
Lest through me Thou suffer loss, Nail me to Thy bleeding cross;
Farther to secure Thine own, Fix me on Thy glorious throne.
Charles Wesley, from “You Belong to Christ” (Mark 9:41)
Call to Worship Psalm 86:8-12
There is none like You among the gods, O Lord,
nor are there any works like Yours.
All the nations You have made shall come
and worship before You, O Lord,
and shall glorify Your name.
For You are great and do wondrous things;
You alone are God.
Teach me Your way, O Lord,
that I may walk in Your truth;
unite my heart to fear Your name.
I give thanks to You, O Lord my God, with my whole heart,
and I will glorify Your name forever.

We Confess Our Sin Together Book of Common Prayer; Psalm 139:23-24
Almighty God, to You all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hidden:
“Search us and know our hearts!
Try us and know our thoughts!
And see if there be any offensive way in us,
and lead us in the way everlasting.”
God Declares Our Forgiveness Romans 8:1
There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Ministry of Prayer Psalm 13. A Psalm of David
How long, O Lord? Will You forget me forever?
How long will You hide Your face from me?
How long must I take counsel in my soul
and have sorrow in my heart all the day?
(Silent prayers for those in sorrow and despair, that Jesus Christ might lift their heads.)
How long shall my enemy be exalted over me?
Consider and answer me, O Lord my God;
Light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death,
lest my enemy say, “I have prevailed over him,”
lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken.
(Silent prayers for all who suffer injustice and disgrace, that Jesus Christ might redeem, protect and restore them.)
But I have trusted in Your steadfast love;
my heart shall rejoice in Your salvation.
I will sing to the Lord,
because he has dealt bountifully with me.
(Silent prayers for the Church and for those the Holy Spirit is drawing to believe in Jesus Christ)

Sermon Mark 9:38-50
38 John said to him, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name,and we tried to stop him, because he was not following us.” 39 But Jesus said, “Do not stop him, for no one who does a mighty work in my name will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me. 40 For the one who is not against us is for us. 41 For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ will by no means lose his reward.
42 “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea. 43 And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to hell,to the unquenchable fire. 45 And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell. 47 And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell, 48 ‘where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’ 49 For everyone will be salted with fire. 50 Salt is good, but if the salt has lost its saltiness, how will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.”
