Steve Shelby, Pastor
Steve was born and raised in Huntersville, North Carolina. He graduated from Davidson College in 1982 with a degree in Philosophy and then attended Reformed Theological Seminary (RTS) in Jackson, MS. He graduated from RTS in 1986 with a Master of Divinity and a Master of Christian Education. After serving as Associate Pastor for Stony Point Reformed Presbyterian Church in Richmond, VA for seven years, Steve was called to be a church planter for a new church in the West End of Richmond. After meeting at Byrd Middle School for 7 years, this group led by Steve, bought the old Best Products building on Quioccasin Road. West End Presbyterian Church celebrated her 20th anniversary in September 2013. Steve completed his Doctor of Ministry degree in 2002 from Gordon-Conwell Seminary. Steve and his wife, Marti, have resided in Richmond for the past 27 years, and they have three children. Steve loves running, reading, college football, hanging out with his family and frozen globe grapes.
Kevin Greene, Associate Pastor
Kevin Greene was born and raised in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Wake Forest University in 1989 with a B.A. in Classical Studies and Greek. He served as campus staff with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship from 1990-1996. As Richmond Staff, he worked with student groups on the campuses of the University of Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University, Randolph-Macon College and Virginia Union University. Kevin joined the staff of West End Presbyterian Church in 1996, where he now serves as Associate Pastor. He completed his seminary education at Reformed Theological Seminary in 2005, graduating with a Master of Arts in Religion. Kevin and his wife, Kimberly, have lived in Richmond for 25 years. They have two children.
Joe Brown, Associate Pastor
Joe Brown lived most of his childhood in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It was in Chadds Ford that Joe grew to love the respective beauty of history, nature, and art. It was also while attending Unionville High School in Kennett Square (Go Indians!), that Joe first heard and believed the Gospel of Jesus through the ministry of Young Life. Over the next decades, Joe worked with Young Life, studied at University of Richmond (Go Spiders!) and Reformed Theological Seminary (Go… Thornwellians?!), and worked for churches in North Carolina and Georgia. Since 2006, Joe has worked here at WEPC. He married his wife, Blair a few years ago and they live with their four children, their two cats, Jackson Davis and Cam Netwon, and their dog, Bonner. Joe loves movies (anything Christopher Guest makes) and television (especially the Golden Girls), the Carolina Panthers (#keeppounding), the Chicago Cubs (this is the year!), Enya, dragging his children to historical sites (huzzah!), reading, biking, and baking. Joe really hates thank-you notes, beef stroganoff, and Golden Palace because, really?
Tim Cornwell, Youth Ministry Director
Tim Cornwell was born a small child to his parents. He grew up in Northern Virginia where he played with sticks, stones, baseballs and his two older brothers. Tim graduated from James Madison University in 1996 with a degree in Biology with a Pre-Med concentration. Early in his college career, Tim began to recognize and follow God’s call into full time ministry. He has been working in youth ministry ever since. Following college, Tim spent a year in an intensive discipleship program in Denton, Texas where he delved deeper into the Bible and theology. Following his time in Texas, Tim had the privilege of marrying his best friend Sarah and they moved to Richmond where God had led Tim to become the Youth Director at West End Presbyterian Church. Now with their four kids and dog, Boaz, the Cornwells love to spend time together laughing, playing and seeing what kind of adventures they can find. At some point in his life, Tim may or may not have, jumped off of a cliff, wrangled and eaten a rattlesnake, and/or zip lined at a ridiculously high altitude around a volcano…upside down. Tim and Sarah are incredibly grateful and humbled by God’s continuous abundance of grace and rich provision to them as He so faithfully molds, shapes and grows them in His perfect way.
Shangwok Deng, Neighborhood Outreach Director
Shangwok Deng was born in Malakal, South Sudan. His family sent him to Khartoum, Sudan at a young age for schooling. He then moved to Syria with his brother’s family for high school. It was in in Syria where he met and married his wife, Matbein. After being granted asylum refugees, they were resettled in Richmond in 2003. They became US citizens in 2010. Shangwok and Matbein have four wonderful children, three girls and one boy. They began attending WEPC in 2005, and Shang has served as Director of Neighborhood Outreach since 2011.
Taylor Barnett and Tiffanie Chan, Worship Art Directors
Taylor and Tiffanie have attended WEPC since 2004. They have participated in a variety of ministries, including teaching Sunday School, leading Children’s Worship, directing music for VBS, and serving on two short-term mission trips to London.
Taylor earned his Doctor of Musical Arts at James Madison University in 2013, and holds both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Music from Virginia Commonwealth University. He has taught music at Maggie Walker Governor’s School and JMU and is currently an assistant professor in the VCU Department of Music. Taylor is an active performer, playing trumpet with No BS! Brass and leading his own jazz groups.
Tiffanie has been a marketing director at VCU’s Department of Music and the Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond, and continues to work part-time in the field of arts marketing. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English and Journalism from UR and is a classically trained pianist.
Taylor and Tiffanie were married in 2006. They are parents to Abby (7) and Clara (3).
Kristin Tetterton, Administrative Director
Kristin Tetterton has attended West End Presbyterian since 1997 and has worked in Administration at the church since 2000. She currently works part-time as she job shares with Ann Long. She has lived in Richmond, VA her whole life and graduated from the University of Virginia. Kristin and her husband Jim have two children and live in the far west end of Henrico. Kristin loves tennis, reading, hanging out in her cul-de-sac with friends and neighbors, and playing with her kids.
Ann Long, Administrative Director
Ann Long has worked in Administration at West End Presbyterian since 2004. Originally from Staunton, Virginia, Ann graduated from The College of William & Mary in 2000. She began attending WEPC at Byrd Middle School in the summer of 2000, and she joined the full-time staff in 2004. Since having children, Ann now works part-time in a job share with Kristin Tetterton. Ann, her husband Davison, and their children reside in Midlothian. Ann loves yard sales, gardening, SnoCaps and digital scrapbooking.
Kim Greene, Women’s Leadership Development
Kim Greene has served in Women’s Leadership Development at WEPC for 9 years. She graduated from Wake Forest University with a degree in Psychology in 1989, and completed her Master’s degree in Counseling at Regent University in 2014. Prior to this, she worked for 9 years with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship as a campus staff member and supervisor. She is married to Kevin and they have two children. Kim enjoys being at home with her family, listening to acoustic music, and reading a really good quote.
Brice Bowman, Women’s Leadership Development Assistant
Brice Bowman joined the Women’s Leadership Development team in 2014. She has been a member of West End since 2003. She graduated from the University of Virginia in 1996 with a degree in history and from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in 2003 with a Master’s in Counseling. She is married to Chip, and they have three children. Brice enjoys spending time with her family and friends, cooking and making a mess in her kitchen, and hunting for treasures in antique and thrift stores.
Heather Jarvis, Children’s Ministry Director
Heather Jarvis joined the WEPC staff as Children’s Ministry Director in 2013. Originally from the Boston area, she attended Grove City College and earned her degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. She moved to Richmond in 1997, and found a home at WEPC almost immediately. She returned to Boston for a short time and earned a Master’s in Education from Harvard, then came back to Richmond and married her husband, Jon in 2000. Heather taught in Hanover County for 5 years before staying home with her 4 kids. She enjoys spending time near the water, watching youth sports of all kinds, reading books, and throwing seeds in the garden to see what will happen.
Karen Howe, Children’s Ministry Administrative Assistant
West End Presbyterian has been the home church for the Howe family since early 1995. South Carolina natives, Karen Howe met her husband Paul while earning degrees from the forestry department at Clemson University. Karen studied forest products, “Yes, this could set me up to be called a paper tiger, I guess, but I will always love paper.” she says. Their three children grew up along with the Children’s Ministry of WEPC, so Karen finds great joy in her service within CM administration: Jesus’ love for the little children and those who lead them AND she still gets to work with some paper too!
Janice Bricker, Biblical Counselor
Janice Bricker is a biblical counselor and teacher. She had a private practice in the Midlothian area for several years before coming on staff at West End Presbyterian in 2005, and was formerly on staff at the Christian Counseling & Training Center in Richmond. She attended Barat Women’s College in Lake Forest, Illinois and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biblical Counseling from Trinity College of the Bible & Theological Seminary in Indiana. Janice, and her husband, Joe, reside in Powhatan, and have one married daughter and 2 grandsons. Janice loves reading, going to the Bay, buttered popcorn, do-it-yourself projects, and bling.
Blair Brown, Finance Administrator
Blair Brown has attended West End Presbyterian Church since its founding in 1993. She has lived in Richmond, Virginia most of her life and graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University. Over the past decade, Blair has worked at various companies as a Finance Administrator and is excited to serve at WEPC in that role. She and her husband, Joe, have four kids, a dog and a cat. Blair loves reading, playing with her children, hanging with friends, and afternoon naps.
Casey Zollinhofer, Preschool Director
Casey Zollinhofer was born in Ohio and spent her elementary school years in Tennessee before her family moved to Virginia. Besides a two-year stint in Turkey, she has called Virginia home for over 20 years. Casey and her husband Brian moved to Richmond after they graduated college and began attending WEPC at Byrd Middle School in 2000. After teaching elementary school for 6 years, she became the WEPC Community Preschool Director in 2007, the year it opened. Casey, Brian, and their two children reside in the West End of Richmond.
